The Problem

36 million Angolans.
Structurally blocked from global payments.

Visa cards exist in Angola — 9 of 23 banks issue internationally branded prepaid cards — but they're structurally inaccessible to most Angolans: formal employment proof, a branch visit (1 branch per 1,000 km²), and upfront card fees of 2,000–35,000 Kz. Angola's $100B+ GDP and its digital-native generation are locked behind an elite gatekeeping system.

🏦

Cards exist — but only for the elite

~69% of adults have no formal bank account (BNA data: 31% formally banked; BNA target: 36% by 2027). Even those who qualify face card fees of 2,000–35,000 Kz upfront plus 2,000–50,000 Kz annually — and a BNA-imposed $10,000/year foreign spending cap.

💸

Frozen out of e-commerce

Amazon, Booking.com, digital subscriptions, SaaS tools — all require an international card. Angolans pay 30-50% black-market premiums to access USD.

📲

Mobile money stranded locally

Multicaixa is a domestic-only EMIS network — it is not Visa or Mastercard and is rejected by foreign websites. Unitel Money and Africell Money have millions of users, but the money cannot cross Angola's borders. The BNA has itself issued alerts about illegal Visa card distribution, confirming demand vastly exceeds formal supply.
